Tourist offices
Canada has no federal tourist department accessible to the public. Instead, each province has its own tourist offices.
Tourist offices are usually in the places you would expect such as major entry points to the province and in the major cities. However, sometimes they can be located out of town and beyond walking distance from downtown. They are worth going in and asking about places to stay and what is going on while you are there. Often there are lots of events planned that are not well advertised.
Free maps and guidebooks can usually be obtained. Even if it is just a photocopy they can be very useful and show important visitor attractions and landmarks.
Tourist offices have plenty of information on the province they are located in but rarely know anything about anywhere else in Canada.
